Writeup oh my god.
Okay, going through this AREA BY AREA...
Surface:
- This was basically how Naoto presents himself to the world! Obviously it was kind of fucked up. The glass suspended from the ceiling was basically remains of things that would have been in the starting area before (a table, a vase, a flower), which had broken but which he didn't want to let sink.
There wasn't much to do here!
Mithos took down glass shards and glued them back together; he formed a vase, a flower, and a table, and set them on the surface. That part became solid floor instead of water. This makes Naoto think that Mithos supports him being able to present better-- which isn't to say stepfording! Just... getting okay enough that he's not having major breakdowns in public.
Fire yelled FALLING GLASS IS DANGEROUS NAOTO!! H-he's now more aware that if he does have a screaming meltdown in public it affects other people in a negative way as well...
White room:
- This was where the Knight went! In full repair this was meant to look like a white room, pristine, with a throne on a raised platform and the Knight (with his sword) sitting in front of that throne. On the throne was a crown! The entire back of the room was a black mirror which reflected the same thing (representing the other king and the other knight).
- Obviously it was kind of wrecked. The Knight was nowhere to be found, the throne had fallen apart, the sword was through the mirror, etc! It was serving absolutely no practical purpose; if Naoto had been subject to a high-stress high-pressure deathgame while the room was like this he'd just have fractured along that weak point.
Katou took the sword and the crown from this room. T-temporarily, Naoto had weird ??king?? feelings at Katou but those went away when Katou got rid of the crown later on.
Kazuki did some things. When he touched the mirror he got stabbing pains up his arms! These were symbolic of that time when Naoto ran into Kazuki's knife to try and save him and got slashed all up the arms as a result. Then Kazuki took the sword (also symbolic of knight/protection/servitude) and smashed the mirror... the sword got too heavy to lift just out of sheer self-defense, and the crown took on feelings of 'hurt, confusion, betrayal' as a result of the mirror being smashed! The water starting to drip from the walls was basically misguided, unfocused knight feels that started as 'a frenzy of violence' because with the mirror smashed there was no 'acceptable target'.
Mithos cheated. He made a bowl in the upraised platform (which was symbolic of 'obey/serve/protect') and put dirt and a seed in there... then put the sword on the same level! So the sword, symbolic for servitude, wound up on the upraised part to make them equals, the upraised part was repurposed to represent growth, and the dirt was surrounded by chunks of throne. BASICALLY what this did was make him feel like he should protect the things that are real to him so that they can continue to grow. This repurposed the Knight's room.
He repurposed the Knight's room into Hope.
Good job, Mithos.
The Glass Garden
- This was basically Naoto's feelings that his happiness is fragile, easy to destroy, and that his relationships and friends are all just as easy to destroy! There was broken glass over the floor which implied that several things had already been broken (all the gold glass was part of a glass sun, which did in fact break), and the tree with relationship feelings tarnished when it was exposed to open air. Originally the door was fragile enough that heading inside would cause it to collapse and lacerate you with glass shards, which was basically the heart's way of going WELL IF YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK ME I'LL HIT YOU FIRST!... But Mithos fixed the door before opening it.
Kazuki helped clean up some glass and found his broken apple with the seeds in it. 'u' He also touched the sundial! There wasn't much change here.
Mithos cheated... okay no well first! He polished the tree, which made Naoto think that even if exposed to bad things he could keep those super fragile relationships safe! He touched a hug flower and his own apple, which fell off in his hands. Then he put a cute fat knitted bird on the tree, and it came to life and started singing 'u' Other people want me to have happy things too!
Then Mithos hit the theme of the heart right on the head; I bet you can figure out how to make this all real someday. Happy things that grow and change, instead of shatter. AS WE SAW, in the True Heart everything was organic and grew on its own! His apple broke in half to reveal the seeds (which were organic, and symbolic of 'maybe this doesn't have to be fragile, maybe I can take care of it and keep it and it can grow'). Then he asked for the real ground, and so the True Heart was like 'sure I can help that', creating the little shortcut from here to all the way down.
Later he came up to collect the rest of the apples and petted them and had fuzzy feelings at them until they started to sprout!
Yuki warped right over to the tree and petted and cuddled his apple until the dere overflowed and the seeds started to sprout on their own. How could it possibly be fragile when Yuki was being so cute about it!! He also got to take a shortcut down to the true heart because Mithos had left that shortcut there.
Foggy door / Boneyard
- So this is basically Naoto's delusion and specifically his total inability to deal with death. YOU WERE WALKING ON BOOONES the blurry shapes were gravestones and you couldn't see any of it because the fog was so thick and bright! 'Joy' was here, but Joy was actually total crazytown delusion.
Sion narrowly avoided going blind here. He was very calm and didn't yell or anything but he did get the sharp pain in both eyes because he pointed out that Delusion was lying; the only reason it didn't go the rest of the way was because he specified 'I won't let you lie to me' and said nothing about lying to HIMSELF. He got to the shard of glass in the ground which made his scars ache (scars being symbolic of 'yes a thing happened, it left a mark, I can't deny it') then headed on down to the arena.
Bart got his vision popped out the first time around. :( This is because he told Delusion that he can't lie to himself!! And can't make all the bad things disappear just by pretending they aren't there! Delusion thought that was a load of bullshit and proceeded to demonstrate by making it so that Bart couldn't see anything, then kicking him out of the area. ORIGINALLY this was supposed to be real eyegouging but I realized that Delusion wouldn't do anything that so obviously left real permanent marks.
Nia jesused Delusion. I... I didn't know this could happen. But she never said anything about lying, and never once implied what it was doing was wrong! She just kept asking it to let her help, and to let everyone help, and Delusion got so confused it left and left her go down to the Arena. The fog thinned a little bit as a result! Naoto even at his most delusional now will want to go to other people to help him instead of just PRETENDING THERE'S NO PROBLEM.
Bart showed up again after Nia jesused Delusion and apologized, and between the two of them Delusion kind of... gave up. In a fit of tsun it went WELL IF YOU'RE SO SURE YOU CAN HELP ME HERE, GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT, YOU'LL FAIL!!! and it dropped the mist levels down so that everything was visible... then Bart went down to the arena as well (there's actually no way to 'make it better' in this room which is why Delusion was so confident; the room is dealing with death, and nothing makes that better!!)
Turquoise/Aather
THIS ROOM was the safest and most comforting and happy room in the heart except maybe the True Heart. It was all full of dere and warmth and safety! In the kitchen there was cabbage and cake and brownies and they were all delicious because they were made WITH LOVE. The trapdoor covered up bad things that had happened in Aather!
Nia had some brownies, and they were delicious. Encouraged eating/cooking together (NOT NECESSARILY JUST WITH NIA) as a form of making people happy! She then sat on all the beds and pulled the romance novel out from under Naoto's pillow, w-which made him more comfortable with ~intimacy~ and ~romance~. THEN she went down to the bad place and saw bad things. She lit the area up! This made Naoto aware that he had repressed Aather memories and specifically which ones -- 'I repressed most of X day so something must have happened'.
Bart showed up and helped press all the beds together and took a nap on one. This encouraged platonic sleeping with(/on) people as a good thing! Bart especially has been mentally set aside as someone to use as a pillow. Then he found the other romance novel, which was less about ~intimacy~ and more just about sex. I-IT HAD NO PAGES RIGHT AFTER THE GOOD PART because Naoto is like ????? ?????? how do sex???? but Bart wrote a scene in it so 8D OH, THAT'S HOW YOU SEX, OKAY. Sion you owe Bart a beer.
Toki brought Loneliness here, cuddled him, fed him, and said they were friends really really really!!! And also said that he could run away to Turquoise whenever he felt like it. This basically means that whenever Naoto feels lonely he'll think about his team and how he always has them! And especially Toki, who he will hug and cuddle a lot especially whenever he's lonely about things.
Echo came in here briefly to collect cabbage. +10 'echo likes cabbage good'.
Breeze came in here to talk to Loneliness after Toki dropped him off! This is still in progress so I'll elaborate on it more later.
The Grey door / A broken home
- THIS WAS THE CHILD ABUSE ROOM
Katou took one look in the kitchen, turned around and walked out. He put the shredded bear on the table though, within easy sight of the marionette and the statue, which made Naoto feel as though his parents fought on purpose to upset him... Katou also hugged Loneliness a lot! So Naoto feels like Katou is someone he can go to when he feels lonely.
Echo put both the marionette and the statue under the table then broke the marionette's chair. He won't think about his parents as much! He'll also have a harder time feeling sorry for his mother even though she was obviously sad as well. She let the cat out of the cupboard and fed it cabbage then gave it to Loneliness, who felt a little better as a result. Naoto now thinks Echo is a super kind and affectionate person who doesn't want him to be lonely!
Fire put together some broken memories and un-repressed his memories of child abuse as a result! Through it all he kept going >:( THIS ISN'T OKAY NOBODY SHOULD ABUSE YOU NAOTO IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. Then he yelled at mom-marionette, which shrunk as a result. Basically Naoto now feels like -- wow no that wasn't justified! That was abuse and it's terrible and regardless of my mother's circumstances she should never have done that!!
Fire also let the cat out of the cupboard. The cat is Affection! Fire is someone he can be affectionate with/at when he's feeling sad now. 'u'
Then Fire and Toki were like 'yeah let's face the thing behind the door together!' And they unlocked it to find... his mom in a coma. Naoto is now aware that his mother was in the hospital because she was totally unresponsive and on life support -- this is part of the reason why the mist thinned when it did in the foggy room.
Toki was super cute with Loneliness and gave him a piggyback ride out of his empty house and into a nice warm place where he got to eat cabbage and cuddle. +5000 TOKI IS SO SWEET AND NICE AND MY FRIEND FOREVER!!
LEVEL 2:
Underwater
The water in this area was DEEP-SEATED DEPRESSION which Naoto has some problems with. The broken things were parts of things from the upper level that had fallen down, sunk, and shattered!
Kazuki picked up some of the broken things and tidied them. He'll feel a little bit less like a total mess.
Lloyd yelled at a door until it unlocked! This pre-weakened Fear by taking all his arguments and proving them wrong ahead of time... originally the way to get through that door was to put together the memories he'd repressed that caused Fear to act in totally illogical ways, but Lloyd Lloyded hard. N-Naoto is now more likely to listen when people yell about feelings at him.
The Arena
This is where all of Naoto's reasons to live clash with all of Naoto's reasons to die, basically. THERE WAS A CROWD HERE that would have started chanting 'DIE, DIE, DIE' if you'd loitered long enough and then horrorterrors would have come out of the shadows and maimed you to death. That didn't happen because people kept fixing broken things on different levels, so whenever anyone hit the arena there weren't enough terrible things going on that made him want to die to summon the monsters!
Katou found Resilience and helped him fight some bad guys! He also tied his bandana around Resilience's arm (where it will serve as additional armor) and gave him the Knight's sword. This set off part 1 of Katou's logic loop-- Naoto then tied together 'I want to live' with 'I should protect', leading into 'I should protect my will to live'.
Sion found Resilience and kissed him a lot. RESILIENCE IS NAOTO'S WILL TO KEEP GOING AND LIVE!! And any positive attention makes him a little stronger. Sion wanting to be there with him and help made him feel a lot better! And it closed up a lot of his wounds and basically they made out until all his HP was restored good job Sion you are the best healer character ever.
Kazuki found Resilience as well and helped him out! The rusty sword ('Kazuki wants me to live') got un-rusted as a result of Kazuki being nice and dere with him u////u. It had originally rusted because Naoto had started to believe that 'I want you to live' was-- still true, but that Kazuki actually didn't care that much about if he did or not depending on who was doing the killing... but that association has gone away now.
A house on fire
- Fear and Defiance both lived here! Or rather Fear locked Defiance up in here, broke his arms, tied him up and set the place on fire so that Defiance would never ever do anything or cause any problems again!!
Lloyd yelled at Fear so much that Fear basically gave up and flopped over! His feelings ALSO made Defiance stronger because they were basically 'NO YOU'RE WRONG, NO YOU'RE WRONG, NO YOU'RE WRONG' which is kind of the entire point of Defiance, so his chains started to break and he could put out the fire in the room. Lloyd also gave him a lemon gel and reverse psychology'd him into eating it! So he's not as injured anymore; Naoto's ability to say no to people has skyrocketed now, and it won't be as fragile and easy to crush as it was before. He'll be a little more stubborn about things!
Sion untied Defiance the rest of the way and shared his voice. ... And then Defiance pushed him down and made out with him. DEFIANCE DID THIS BECAUSE SION LOOKED LIKE HE WANTED TO BE ALL GENTLE and so he got... the opposite! But then Sion basically went 'wow well okay I'll let you do this' which is a pretty good feeling for Defiance and then he topped Sion so hard that Sion was like squirming around and making noises.
From this Naoto gained the thought that making Sion squirm around and make noises is pretty awesome and maybe he should try it sometime!! And that bullying Sion is super awesome!! They didn't actually do it though :'( Sion stopped Defiance, which actually could have been a bad thing, except he did it by going 'well I want this but I don't but I do but I don't', which just confused Defiance into flopping over.
Defiance is so pleased with himself now you guys. He's untied! He's free! He can say 'yes' or 'no' to whatever he wants just because he can.
A house of mirrors
Clarity lived here! Every mirror in this place started off broken and Clarity had no voice and his phone didn't work.
Breeze fixed all the mirrors, which made Naoto more prone to self-reflection/not being so goddamn crazy. She also phoned Loneliness on the phone which made Naoto more likely to self-examine whenever he feels lonely, so he won't just ignore that there are people around who love him!
Kazuki gave Clarity his voice back and had a feelings talk with him. Naoto is now more aware of how he feels about the Kazuki situation and when he gets an apology will probably accept it because he feels like Kazuki is more aware of his feelings as well! He also will try harder to be clear and honest with Kazuki when he can.
Lloyd brought Fear here and told them to talk it out. More likely to examine why he's afraid of things and if that makes sense! Also more likely to be honest and open with Lloyd (so basically no change...)
Sion brought Defiance here. Clarity trolled him a little and decided making Sion blush was pretty cute.
LEVEL 3:
Trust
THIS WAS THE TRUE HEART, it had flowers and dirt and a wall and a lamp. It was a safe place to grow! The walls were there to keep the things he's growing sheltered, and the only way past the wall was to climb up using the Sion-tree... this is because for a long time Sion was the only one he 100% trusted to know who's good for him and thus, if the Sion-tree lets you in, you're an ok guy!
Anyone interacting with the true heart got like +500% dere and affection and trust. Anyone who planted their seeds in this area (WHICH IS, I THINK, EVERYONE, SINCE MITHOS BROUGHT ALL THE APPLES HERE) got a sense of trust as well, like they wouldn't hurt him on purpose and that their relationships can change and grow!
Katou and Kazuki both gave the crown to the True Heart. THIS MEANS that both 'hope' and 'live' have been symbolically linked to 'for your own sake' and 'because you're you' and other things like that.

Underwater
The water in this area was DEEP-SEATED DEPRESSION which Naoto has some problems with. The broken things were parts of things from the upper level that had fallen down, sunk, and shattered!
Kazuki picked up some of the broken things and tidied them. He'll feel a little bit less like a total mess.
Lloyd yelled at a door until it unlocked! This pre-weakened Fear by taking all his arguments and proving them wrong ahead of time... originally the way to get through that door was to put together the memories he'd repressed that caused Fear to act in totally illogical ways, but Lloyd Lloyded hard. N-Naoto is now more likely to listen when people yell about feelings at him.
The Arena
This is where all of Naoto's reasons to live clash with all of Naoto's reasons to die, basically. THERE WAS A CROWD HERE that would have started chanting 'DIE, DIE, DIE' if you'd loitered long enough and then horrorterrors would have come out of the shadows and maimed you to death. That didn't happen because people kept fixing broken things on different levels, so whenever anyone hit the arena there weren't enough terrible things going on that made him want to die to summon the monsters!
Katou found Resilience and helped him fight some bad guys! He also tied his bandana around Resilience's arm (where it will serve as additional armor) and gave him the Knight's sword. This set off part 1 of Katou's logic loop-- Naoto then tied together 'I want to live' with 'I should protect', leading into 'I should protect my will to live'.
Sion found Resilience and kissed him a lot. RESILIENCE IS NAOTO'S WILL TO KEEP GOING AND LIVE!! And any positive attention makes him a little stronger. Sion wanting to be there with him and help made him feel a lot better! And it closed up a lot of his wounds and basically they made out until all his HP was restored good job Sion you are the best healer character ever.
Kazuki found Resilience as well and helped him out! The rusty sword ('Kazuki wants me to live') got un-rusted as a result of Kazuki being nice and dere with him u////u. It had originally rusted because Naoto had started to believe that 'I want you to live' was-- still true, but that Kazuki actually didn't care that much about if he did or not depending on who was doing the killing... but that association has gone away now.
A house on fire
- Fear and Defiance both lived here! Or rather Fear locked Defiance up in here, broke his arms, tied him up and set the place on fire so that Defiance would never ever do anything or cause any problems again!!
Lloyd yelled at Fear so much that Fear basically gave up and flopped over! His feelings ALSO made Defiance stronger because they were basically 'NO YOU'RE WRONG, NO YOU'RE WRONG, NO YOU'RE WRONG' which is kind of the entire point of Defiance, so his chains started to break and he could put out the fire in the room. Lloyd also gave him a lemon gel and reverse psychology'd him into eating it! So he's not as injured anymore; Naoto's ability to say no to people has skyrocketed now, and it won't be as fragile and easy to crush as it was before. He'll be a little more stubborn about things!
Sion untied Defiance the rest of the way and shared his voice. ... And then Defiance pushed him down and made out with him. DEFIANCE DID THIS BECAUSE SION LOOKED LIKE HE WANTED TO BE ALL GENTLE and so he got... the opposite! But then Sion basically went 'wow well okay I'll let you do this' which is a pretty good feeling for Defiance and then he topped Sion so hard that Sion was like squirming around and making noises.
From this Naoto gained the thought that making Sion squirm around and make noises is pretty awesome and maybe he should try it sometime!! And that bullying Sion is super awesome!! They didn't actually do it though :'( Sion stopped Defiance, which actually could have been a bad thing, except he did it by going 'well I want this but I don't but I do but I don't', which just confused Defiance into flopping over.
Defiance is so pleased with himself now you guys. He's untied! He's free! He can say 'yes' or 'no' to whatever he wants just because he can.
A house of mirrors
Clarity lived here! Every mirror in this place started off broken and Clarity had no voice and his phone didn't work.
Breeze fixed all the mirrors, which made Naoto more prone to self-reflection/not being so goddamn crazy. She also phoned Loneliness on the phone which made Naoto more likely to self-examine whenever he feels lonely, so he won't just ignore that there are people around who love him!
Kazuki gave Clarity his voice back and had a feelings talk with him. Naoto is now more aware of how he feels about the Kazuki situation and when he gets an apology will probably accept it because he feels like Kazuki is more aware of his feelings as well! He also will try harder to be clear and honest with Kazuki when he can.
Lloyd brought Fear here and told them to talk it out. More likely to examine why he's afraid of things and if that makes sense! Also more likely to be honest and open with Lloyd (so basically no change...)
Sion brought Defiance here. Clarity trolled him a little and decided making Sion blush was pretty cute.
LEVEL 3:
Trust
THIS WAS THE TRUE HEART, it had flowers and dirt and a wall and a lamp. It was a safe place to grow! The walls were there to keep the things he's growing sheltered, and the only way past the wall was to climb up using the Sion-tree... this is because for a long time Sion was the only one he 100% trusted to know who's good for him and thus, if the Sion-tree lets you in, you're an ok guy!
Anyone interacting with the true heart got like +500% dere and affection and trust. Anyone who planted their seeds in this area (WHICH IS, I THINK, EVERYONE, SINCE MITHOS BROUGHT ALL THE APPLES HERE) got a sense of trust as well, like they wouldn't hurt him on purpose and that their relationships can change and grow!
Katou and Kazuki both gave the crown to the True Heart. THIS MEANS that both 'hope' and 'live' have been symbolically linked to 'for your own sake' and 'because you're you' and other things like that.
